Nearly one in four children in Maryland and DC are lost in the after-school-time abyss. So at sites in Maryland and DC, SWE reaches some 3,000 kids with over 100 free programs and 24 free summer and school break camps, offering everything from expressive arts and healthy cooking to STEM and sports – all interwoven with service learning. SWE also rescues an average of 16 million pounds of food each year, diverting that waste from the landfills, and providing it to food insecure families. They deliver food to affordable housing complexes, homeless shelters, churches, and community rooms. A walk-up food pantry serves thousands of meals each day and stocks baby goods, clothing, books, snacks, toys, and educational materials for children. Serve kids, serve the community, and help kids serve the community: light the spark.
