For over 30 years, Safe Shores’ child-centered, trauma-responsive approach to investigations has ensured that child victims of abuse have a safe and welcoming place where their voices are heard and their needs come first. Using the nationally replicated Child Advocacy Center (CAC) model, the organization provides a coordinated, comprehensive response that includes: developmentally appropriate forensic interviews, mental health therapy for children, caregiver support groups, new clothes and toiletries, meals, emergency funds, help accessing crime victims’ compensation, court accompaniment, referrals to resources such as housing and legal assistance, and specially trained advocates for victims of sexual assault ages 13–17. All services are free of charge. It also offers prevention training for adults and children and training for partner agencies. Child abuse should never happen. But when it does, children and families find safety, support, dignity, and hope at Safe Shores.
