AfriThrive advances food justice and health equity by pairing culturally relevant food with programs that empower underserved immigrant and refugee families to strengthen their food security, health, and economic opportunity. Since 2020, AfriThrive has served more than 50,000 individuals and distributed more than 2.5 million pounds of healthy, culturally relevant food, improving food security and health outcomes. Across five acres of community farms and gardens in multiple locations, AfriThrive cultivates African indigenous crops while training unemployed and underemployed individuals in sustainable agriculture, food entrepreneurship, and culturally relevant cuisine. Through a Food as Medicine approach, nutrition education and cooking demonstrations help prevent chronic disease. The Community Leadership Program equips emerging leaders to advance food justice, civic engagement, and community resilience.
