  • Volunteer Opportunities / Responsibilities: Become a Mentor. Change a Life.

    The Rising Stars Mentoring Program is looking for passionate, caring adults who are ready to make a difference in the lives of young people across Washington, DC.

    As a mentor, you’ll help students build confidence, develop leadership skills, explore future careers, and navigate life’s challenges through consistent encouragement and positive guidance. Just a few hours of your time each month can have a lasting impact on a student’s future.

    Mentor qualifications include:

    Completion of online Mandated Reporter training.
    Completion of DCPS background clearance.
    Commitment to supporting youth through consistent mentorship and positive guidance.
    Mentor commitment includes:

    Volunteering 5–7 hours per month. Volunteer hours include working on mentoring projects, conducting monthly house calls with families, occasional in-person student visits, and completing required data tracking and documentation.
    Attending two virtual mentor meetings each month. Each meeting is one hour and provides training, collaboration, and program updates.
    Completing 6 hours of community service throughout the program year.
    Attending one end-of-year celebratory event.
    Please note that this is a volunteer opportunity and is not a paid position.
