The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Encore Stage & Studio Encore Stage & Studio proudly presents “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Vera Morris. Sleepy Hollow is a little town with more than its fair share of spooky ghost stories. The citizens of Sleepy Hollow know the legend of the Headless Horseman is just make-believe until the new schoolteacher, Ichabod Crane, arrives. Suddenly, strange things begin to happen and he comes face to face with the famous ghost. Will Ichabod triumph over the mysterious Horseman Join us as the legend unfolds, and see for yourself. Complete the Circle FoodRaiser

Our Daily Bread Did you know that 73,000 people who live in the Fairfax County area don’t know on any given day if they will have anything to eat; half of them are children. Fairfax County non-profits Our Daily Bread and Food for Others are joining together once again to host the fun and inspirational Complete the Circle FoodRaiser to help feed the hungry and raise awareness about hunger and need in Fairfax County. Participants create a fun Art for the Sky picture that is photographed from high above by artist Daniel Dancer. The perimeter of the circle is formed by food donations that are brought by participants that day. There will also be live music, food and children’s entertainment.

Joshua Safran at the JCCGW Book Festival

Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse Joshua Safran will discuss his new memoir, Free Spirit: Growing Up On the Road and Off the Grid. Safran was born to a coven of lesbian witches in a Haight-Ashbury commune, spent his childhood hitchhiking and surviving the elements and a violent alcoholic stepfather from El Salvador, and, against all odds, found his way to Orthodox Judaism and law school. An author, attorney, occasional rabbi, and nationally recognized advocate for survivors of domestic violence and the wrongfully imprisoned, Safran’s compelling and inspirational story has been heard around the world on the BBC, NPR, PBS, CBS, and FOX News. Spooktacular Halloween Party

Hope for Henry Foundation All the kids at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital will be treated (get it!) to candy and other Halloween-gifts and treats on the sweetest day of the year thanks to Hope for Henry. We’ll have face painters and caricaturists and a photo booth on site. Hope for Henry will take pre-orders of their favorite costumes and they will trick-or-treat through the decorated hospital corridors to ensure they don’t miss out on the best day of the year.

Professional Attire Collection Day

Suited for Change Join Suited for Change as we receive large clothing donations of fall and winter clothes. Our suiting program provides professional attire, shoes and matching accessories to low-income women who are entering the job market or who have recently started a new job. Clients meet one-on-one with trained volunteers, also known as “wardrobe consultants,” who assist them in assembling a professional wardrobe.

An excerpt from Victory Road, Far Behind is part of the larger collaborative production between Lucy Bowen McCauley and Jason Ringenberg of Jason and The Scorchers, credited by Rolling Stone Magazine for rewriting the history of rock’n roll in the South. WASHINGTON IMPROV THEATER PRESENTS HOWL

Sweaty palms, accelerated heartbeats: this October, WIT is redefining stage fright. Every Washington Improv Theater show is a spontaneous, one-time-only event. There’s no telling what dangers will pop out of the dark, since none of the performers on stage have a script. This run features the improvised slasher film Die! Die! Die! and a witches brew of Halloween concoctions from WIT’s company ensembles and guest troupes from across the District.

Fall Frenzy

DC SCORES
The Fall Frenzy, held each October, is one of the premier events of the DC SCORES fall season and brings together the elementary school program as well as family, community members, volunteers, longtime supporters of the program and others. More than 800 students representing DC SCORES elementary public and public charter schools compete in a round-robin soccer tournament and rotate between other activities such as face painting; fitness booths; relay races; a creative expression table and more. Nearly 1,000 people annually attend the Fall Frenzy at Trinity University. The event is regularly highlighted in Capital Community News.
